Pre-porting verification message?

Porting a phone number is a process of transferring a number from one telecoms provider to another.

We have a legal obligation to confirm all customers transferring (porting) their number to Lycamobile (Or vice versa) from another provider are the rightful owners of the number concerned and are legally entitled to transfer the number.

To combat attempts to port numbers fraudulently, a pre-porting verification process has been implemented throughout the telecoms industry. The aim is to protect you, limit fraud and prevention of unauthorised number transfers.

Measures to take if you have received a pre-port verification message you did not request for transfer to/from Lycamobile?

Contact your current provider immediately. There is no need to contact Lycamobile – we cannot cancel it for you, as the number is in transit and is therefore not in Lyca’s systems yet. If you suspect that your service is being transferred without your permission, you should contact the Australian Federal Police or the relevant State or Territory Police immediately to report that activity. You should also immediately report that activity to Scam watch or IDCARE.

How does it work?

A digital code will be sent via SMS to the mobile number being transferred. As part of the Pre-Porting verification process you’ll need to confirm this code with Lycamobile before your number can be transferred to Lycamobile.

To complete a number transfer to Lycamobile, you’ll also need to provide:

 Registration information

 The mobile number you wish to transfer

My service has been fraudulently transferred, who can help?

If you suspect your service has been fraudulently transferred (including if you suspect that it is been transferred without your permission), you should immediately contact your current provider, and the Australian Federal Police or the relevant State or Territory Police immediately to report that activity. You should also immediately report that activity to Scam watch or IDCARE.

What is pre-port verification?

Porting a phone number means transferring that number from one service provider to another.

As a telecom service provider, we have a legal obligation to confirm all customers porting (Transferring) their number to Lycamobile from other service providers can do so legally.

To combat attempts to port numbers fraudulently, a pre-porting verification process has been implemented throughout the telecoms industry. The aim is to protect you, limit fraud and prevention of unauthorised number transfers.

How does it work?

During the porting process of your mobile service from another Telco to Lycamobile, you will receive an authentication SMS message to the number being transferred. You will need to give this code to Lycamobile so your request for porting can be verified and mobile number being ported

Why are we doing this?

Pre-porting verification will allow Lycamobile to protect its customers from fraud by checking and confirming the legitimacy of each port request.

What if I cannot complete the PPV process?

Pre-approval Verification a legal requirement and to protect all customers pre-approval must be completed in all cases. In an event of pre-approval failure, your mobile service will not be ported.

Lack of coverage to receive the SMS code

Many carriers can now send an SMS over Wi-Fi. Please try connecting to Wi-Fi and then ask us to resend the code.

I cannot receive the SMS due to lost/damaged phone

You are required to insert your SIM into another compatible phone for the process to take effect.

I deleted the SMS code accidentally or code is not working/expired

In case of SMS code being deleted by mistake, we can send you another.

I have received a pre-port verification message without requesting to transfer to Lycamobile?

If you receive a pre port verification message without having requested to your number, contact your current provider immediately. There is no need to inform Lycamobile as we will be unable to act as it the process has not reached us yet. It is important to contact Australian Federal Police or relevant police department within your territory if you suspect your service is being transferred without your permission. You should also immediately report that activity to Scam watch or IDCARE.

Pre-Porting Verification Identification Requirements

In all cases of porting/sim swap, there will be a requirement for Identity verification to allow us to confirm that the requesting person has legal rights to use holder of the mobile service number. (all documents must be valid and not expired (other than an Australian passport).
